A Study Mission to Mao Ming and Zhan Jiang

A study mission comprised of 50 delegates was led by Mr. CHAN Shan Ho, Chairman of the Association, to visit the Cities of Mao Ming and Zhan Jiang from 11 to 13 November, 2005. The study mission was sponsored by Liaison Office of Central People??s  Government of PRC (LOCPG)  and accompanied by its senior officials, including Mr. ZHOU Jun Ming, Vice Director of LOCPG in the capacity of Honorary Advisor. The study mission on its first day called on the City of Mao Ming, which is famous for petrochemical and oil-refining industry.  The study mission paid visits to Mao Ming Petrochemical Plant and Mao Ming Oil Refinery. A welcoming banquet in honour of the delegates was hosted by the municipal officials in the evening.

 

The study mission departed for the City of Zhan Jiang the next day as the second leg of the visit.  The city at the southwestern part of Guangdong Province has a total area of 13,000 square kilometres with a population of 7.10 million and is acclaimed as one of the 50 best cities in China. In 2004, the total throughput for sea-freight cargo handling is 31.23 million metric tonnes, up by 32.3% as compared with the previous year's figure.  Guided by the senior management of Zhan Jiang Port (Holdings) Ltd, the delegates were shown around the wharves for handling crude oil and minerals. They also visited tourist attractions, such the Sea-view Promenade and Fishermen's Park. An evening reception was held by the municipal government for networking.
