The 2006 China International Foodstuffs Trade Fair kicked off
when the opening ceremony was launched at International Exhibition Centre, Huangpu, Zhongshan
in the morning on 12
October, 2006.
Mr. Jacques Santer,
formerly Prime Minister of Luxemburg (1984-1995) and President of European
Commission (1995-1999) officiated at the opening ceremony along with other
foreign and Chinese dignitaries. In total, 3,000-plus visitors from 30
countries attended the gala occasion, which was highlighted by exchange of
signed contracts for 9 joint projects in investment and 5 trading
agreements. The total investment
capital and trade value amounted to US$500 million-- an achievement
accomplished by Huangpu township to promote the
local economy. The exhibition, lasting from 12 to 14 October, was packed with
400 exhibitors, which showcased premium food, beverage and cooking utensils
from household names and other celebrated makers in the industry. It is estimated that 130 business
entities from abroad participated in this event, about 30% of the total
exhibitors. In addition to Chinese foodstuffs and beverage, the exhibition
was marked by French Food Day as the main feature, which was made feasible by
some 30 French food-related companies, including airline caterers, wine
chateaux, meat producers, natural/organic food manufacturers, suppliers for
food-processing equipment, etc.
