              Mr Albert PK LAU, Vice-chairman, was invited as one of the guest speakers in EnviroSeries 2003, organized by Business Environment Council. The theme of the conference was known as Cross Border Opportunities in Sustainable Development.  Mr. LAU, on behalf of the SMEs in Hong Kong,  elaborated on the development of eco-friendly industrial parks in China under the title: Eco-industrial Parks in Guangdong and SMEs from Hong Kong: Challenges, Opportunities and Initiatives

At the invitation of Taishan Municipal Government, the Association visited anchor enterprises, large-scale infrastructure ( such as Taishan Electric Power Plant) and investment environment (such as Wenhua Investment Park) in Taishan and other major towns.  The host included Mr. LI Chenghai, Taishan Municipal Party Secretary, and Mr. GUO Wei, the Mayor.  The delegation was led by Mr. CHAN Shan HO, Chairman along with Mr. Andy HUNG, Vice-president and other committee members

The project ITEAS'03, which was sponsored by SME Development Fund and Trade and Industry Department, gave 100 SMEs in Hong Kong estimation services gratis in IT configuration, software suite package and budgeting.  The services helped the beneficiary-SMEs with IT-enabling applications to fit in with their corporate strategies so as to enhance their competitiveness, entrepreneurship and corporate meritocracy.  SMEs in tandem with knowledge-based economy will avail themselves of the CEPA and Chinas accession to the WTO, leading to intensive globalization and more job opportunities.  ITEAS03, lasting from 1 February 2003 to 31 January, 2004 was consummated by a series of seminars and demonstrations on IT applications.  <Photos>
